Rail Hunting

This underutilized traditional shooting sport is offered by Maine Sea Ducks during the early part of the annual hunting season.  Most of the rail hunting is done on the high astronomical tides of September and early October.

Rail gunning is done one on one from a Merrymeeting Bay gunning float that is poled through the rice beds at the time of high tide.  A typical hunt is almost two hours. A light gauge side by side is the ideal gun.  Non-toxic shot is required.  The fee for a rail hunt is $400.
